Rookie Harlan Oleski celebrates July 4th at Spartan Speedway
Comcast Cablevision night at Spartan Speedway will never be forgotten for B&L Truck Caps Pony Stock rookie, Harlen Oleski. Oleski won his first ever feature event in only his third night of racing at the popular 1/4 mile. Jerry Lynn Munn took the early lead of teh B&L Truck Caps Feature event through lap 5 when Michael Putnam took over. Oleski worked his way up to 2nd from his 8th starting spot as Munn fell back to 4th. Oleski and Torg teammate, Jerry Garland got by Putnam for the lead on lap 7 and held on for the one-two finish. Jimmy Scavarda was 3rd followed by a great run by Trei Duebel for from the tail of the field for 4th and Kenny Clark 5th. Trei Duebel was the Dande Signs and Designs Hard Charger finishing 4th from his 20th starting spot. Oleski also won his heat, while Trei Deubel won heat two. Julie Abbott set fast time for the 21-car field.
The Comcast Cablevision Super Late Model 50-lap feature event had Stan Perry and Chris Place on the front row and the duo went side-by-side for the first five laps until Perry finally took the point. Dave Stehouwer took over the lead on lap 7, bringing Doug Finley with him. Finley worked over Stehouwer for over 10 laps and used the inside lane to take over the lead on lap 17 and went on for the win as a lapped traffic allowed Perry to reclaim second from Stehouwer. Harry Foote Jr. and Chris Place rounded out the top five. Doug Finley and John Dunivon were the Hidy's Towing/Mr. Gasket Hard Chargers for the event. Stan Perry,Brian Nester and Robbie Loving were the heat race winners. Lee Taylor won the RaceFan.Com Semi-Feature over Craig Willet and Evan Barrett. Jack Landis set fast time for the 22-car field.
The WIBM AM1450 Modifieds 35-lap feature had Brian Heeney take the victory from his front row starting spot over Nyle Weiler, Jim Butler, Larry Wallace and Bud Perry. Heeney took the win in easy fashion as all the racing was in the pack as Michael Gaier worked Harry Parish hard for 4th and Wallace, Perry and Justin Kazmar raced tight behind them. Gaier used the outside groove through the middle of the race , but had to settle for a 6th place finish. Parish's handle went away as he fell back to 7th at the stripe. Bud Perry was the 3D Automotive/Mr. Gasket Harde Charger finishing 5th from his 12th starting spot. Heat race winners were Ken Buchner, Earl Miles Jr., and Harry Parish. Miles also won the RaceFan.Com Semi Feature over Wayne Haughton and Dan Logan.
The Performance NW Automitive Street Stocks 25-lap feature had Randy Squires and Jordan Harvey the starting front row. Harvey took the early lead until Brian Beckner took over on lap 2. Beckner was running his best feature event ever at the speedway as he stretched his lead through lap 6. Butch Morence got by Harvey for 2nd on lap 9 and had Ben Hidy in tow. Morence got loose out of turn 2 a few laps later and allowed Hidy to get by. A caution eliminated Beckner's lead and it was all Hidy after the restart. Ben Hidy took the win over Ron Heeney, Dane Long, Bubber Patrick and Beckner. Ben Hidy was the Lost Tiger Tattoos/ Mr. Gasket Hard Charger winning from his 15th starting spot.
Howard McDonough and Bubber Patrick were heat race winners, while Ben Hidy set fast time for the 21-car field.
