Landis, Perry, Hidy and Clark 2003 Spartan Speedway Champs
Comcast/Coca-Cola Championships were handed out at Spartan Speedway and in championship fashion each division champion also claimed feature wins. The Comcast Cablevision Super Late Models champ, Jack Landis took the 50 -lap feature event over Charlie Ryan Jr., Bill Heeney Jr., Jeff Hackworth and John Ledwidge. Robby Johnston in his second visit to the speedway was the Mr. Gasket/Pierce Race Engines Hard Charger finishing 12th from his 16th starting spot. Jeff Hackworth won the 4-car dash, with heat wins going to Johnston and Stan Perry. Lee Taylor won the 2003 Rookie of the Year title over Craig Willet and Evan Barrett.
The WIBM AM 1450 Michigan Modifieds were all Bud Perry's of Edgerton, Ohio as he won the championship feature over Larry Wallace,Dan Logan,Jim Butler and Brian Heeney. Wayne Haughton claimed his 2nd Mr. Gasket/3D Auto Racing Supplies Hard Charger Award finishing 7th from his 12th starter spot. Perry won the 4-car dash as Matt Schindewolf and Mike Wells won the heat races. Earl Miles won the RaceFan.com Semi-Feature. Michael Gaier won the 2003 Rookie of the Year title over James Wells and Mat Schindewolf.
The Performance NW Street Stocks had Ben Hidy winning the championship race over Landon Hidy, Dave Parker, Mike McEwan and Doc Dutton. Dave Bollis was the Mr. Gasket/Lost Tiger Tattoo Hard Charger for the event. Ron Heeney, Rich Kinch and Jeff Titmus won the heats. Kinch and Bollis were also victorious in both Race Fan.Com Semi-Features. Bob Flotka won the 2003 Rookie of the Year title nipping Corey Davis and Andy Schmelzer.
The Midwest Amusements Pony Stocks had the only battle left on championship night and Kenny Clark took the win and championship. Chris Van Gorden, Julie Abbott, Trei Deubel and Bruce Jones rounded out the top five. Duebel was the Mr. Gasket/Macs All Car Hard Charger finishing 4th from his 11th starting spot. Stephanie Smith and Jones won the heat races. Scott Sigman did a fine job claiming the 2003 Rookie of the Year title and a fine 6th place showing in the season ending points.
The racing season just got a little longer as the rain delayed Harvest 250 will be added to the Sunday, September 7th show. The Sunday night program completed all the Semi-Features before steady rains ended the event. Ken Kirby took the Super Late Model Semi over Jim Heeeney, Lee Taylor and Jon McNett. The Modifieds had two semi's with Fred Lytle taking semi#1 over Eric Gilbert and Tom Trudgeon. Semi #2 was Mike Wells over Jim Pierce and Mat Schindewolf. The Street Stocks Semi #1 winner was Dave Bollis over Bob Flotka and Ed Newman Jr. Semi #2 was won by 15 year old Rob "E" Legree in his first visit ever to the speedway over Corey Davis and Trent Jensen.
