The Ohio Posse Invades Spartan Speedway
The Ohio Posse invaded Spartan Speedway on B & L Truck Caps Night. Jack Landis and Brian Nester both of Edgerton, Ohio took home feature wins in their respective divisions. "Sponge Bob" Rob Patrick finally fought off engine woes and claimed his first Street Stock victory of the seasons and Kenny Clark won the Pony Stock feature.
The Comcast Cablevision Super Late Models rolled out first for their 50 lap feature event. Lee Taylor and John Dunivion were the starting front row. Taylor took the early lead through lap six when Tim Ryan jumped to the outside of Taylor to gain the top spot. Ryan stretched his lead as the pack shuffled for position from 2nd through 7th. Lap 18 had Harry Foote Jr. heading to the pit area ending his fine 4th place run. Points Leader, Jack Landis was the car on the move as he worked his way back through the field after getting shuffled back earlier in the race. Landis took over 2nd from Taylor on lap 29 as Ryan had a straightaway lead. A caution on lap 34 gave Landis the break that he needed and with 9 laps to go, took over the lead and went on for 3rd win of the season. Ryan held on for 2nd over Taylor, Charlie Ryan Jr. and Dave Stehouwer. Charlie Ryan Jr. once again was the Pierce Race Engines Hard Charger gaining 5 positions in the feature event.
Lee Taylor, Jim Davis and Jimmy Gallagher were the heat race winners. Davis also picked up the Racefan.com Semi Feature. Chris Place set fast time for the 25 car field.
The WIBM AM1450 Modifieds were next out and many old-new faces made returns to the speedway creating some exciting racing action. Gary Sherman , making a rare appearance and Troy Tucker made up the starting front row. Sherman took the early lead through lap 14 when Brian Nester caught him on the outside. Nester then made a great outside/inside move coming out of turn 4 on the next lap to take over the lead and went on for his first victory in his first appearance of the season. Larry Wallace made a nice run up to 2nd and also gained the 3-D Auto Racing Supplies Hard Charger Award from his 11th starting spot. Dave Mingus settled for 3rd over Sherman and Brad Roberts.
Rolly Olney,Bud Perry and Justin Kazmar claimed heat wins. Perry repeated with the Racefan.com Semi Feature win. Larry Wallace was the Racefan.com Fast Qualifier for the 32 car field.
The 25-lap Performance NW Street Stock had a new face in victory lane as "Sponge Bob" Rob Patrick took the hard fought victory after taking the lead on lap 10 as Pat Dent pulled into the infield. Side by side racing action was maintained throughout the race from 2nd place back to 8th. Stan Lambert and Larry Blanchard Jr. ran side by side for the 2nd spot .Patrick watched all the racing action in his rear view mirror for the last two laps as Dane Long decided to try the third groove to take over 2nd. The move didn't work as he got shuffled back to 6th at the line. Partick to the win followed by Lambert, Blanchard, Rich Kinch and Ben Hidy. Hidy claimed the Lost Tiger Tattoo Hard Charger Award gaining 7 postions.
Dane Long beat out Pat Dent in a photo finish in heat race #2 as Wayne Beckner Jr. and Mike McEwan took the other heat wins. Ben Hidy once again set fast time for the evening.
The always exciting Midwest Amusement Pony Stocks 15-lap feature had Mike Sairls and Mannie Goodrich on the front row. Sairls took the early lead as Goodrich spun in turn 2. Trei Deubel had the hot car early as his ran through the middle of the pack to take over the lead on lap5. Julie Abbott and points leader, Missy Bishop go together in turn 2 forcing Bishop to the rear for the restart. The restart had Kenny Clark and Chris Van Gorden battling for 2nd as Clark got by and then took over the point on lap 9. Clark was able to take his 2nd win of the season over Van Gorden, Abbott, Duebel and Bruce Jones.
Jerri Lynn Munn nipped Lynsday Ward in heat #1 and Chris Van Gorden won heat #2. Van Gorden also was the Race Fan.Com Fast qualifier for the 22-car field.
This week is crazy 8's night at the speedway as the Carquest Racing Series has the night off as we bring the return of the Motor City Madmen, The Spartan Street Stock Firgure 8's , the Outlaw Midgets and the Pony Stocks. This is a first time event as Spartan hosts dual figure 8 features in one evening- only at "The Track the Stars Call Home"- Spartan Speedway.
