The Championship Battles are Raging

With just 4 points nights remaining on the schedule, the titles are shaping up to be good ones.

In the Super Late Model Division, there are still 6 drivers with a shot at the title, however, the current 5th and 6th place drivers would have to rely on some bad luck amongst all 4 of the top contenders. Nobody changed positions this week which puts Jon McNett still in the top spot, followed by Jimmy Gallagher, Stan Perry, and Doug Finley.

In the Modified Division, Larry Wallace is going after a repeat of last weekend's title run at Springport. Chris Ozanich, who was second at Springport, is also giving Larry a run here at Spartan. Being 120 points behind now, Ozanich is going to have to keep a hard run going while hoping for some bad luck on Wallace's part. Keep your eye on these two as they battle to the end of the season.

In the Street Stock Division, Dane Long is gone on vacation.

Scott Sigman finished a solid 2nd in points at Springport
He's out in Sturgis, South Dakota for the big motorcycle gathering and has missed the show last Sunday and will also miss the show this Friday. But that doesn't matter as he still holds a 233 point lead over Damon Place. Sitting in third, Scott Sigman is 24 points behind Damon. Both drivers will close in this Friday, but when Dane shows up again on August 18, he will still be in the lead because the most points anyone can get in one night is 230. To do that requires the driver to set fast qualifying time, win his heat race, and win the feature. You can bet that both Damon and Scott will be trying for that. It will be tough because there are many other good drivers that can hold them back.
In the Pony Stock Division, we still have four drivers going for the championship. John Ward is holding a pretty good lead over Keith Holden, Tina Anderson, and Jimmy Scavarda. However, all it takes is a little bad luck for John Ward, and any one of the other three drivers can take over the lead as the three of them are separated by only one point. Sitting in 5th position, but a little too far out to be in contention at this point is Jacob Newman.

Jacob Newman is having his best season yet
Jacob was just about ready to throw in the towel earlier on in the season, but with some determination and some good consistent finishes, he has not only pulled into the top ten in points, but deserves some credit for driving his way into a solid 5th place at this point.

John Ward has already clinched the title for the Pony Stock Figure-8's as the final points race was ran last Sunday.

The regular Figure 8 guys have one more points race on the schedule, that is coming on September 3rd. That battle is shaping up between Jerry Atwell, Jeff Cummings, and Jim Gokee.

Keep an eye on these drivers as they keep working on the "big picture".
