BUCKLEY BAGS SUPERPRO BUCKS AT SPARTAN
By Bill Lackey
Local favorite and 2005 SUPERPRO Champion Rob Buckley grabbed the lead on lap 30 and cruised to victory in the "Lipari Foods 75" Sunday night at Spartan Speedway in Mason, Michigan.
Buckley, who started eleventh, systematically moved through the field. He was fifth by lap 20, grabbed fourth the next lap, was third by lap 23 and grabbed the runner up spot on lap 26. Four laps later, he passed 2005 SUPERPRO Rookie of the Year Justin Kazmar for the top spot.
At the half way mark, it was Buckley, Kazmar, Mark Kortz, Rick Everidge and Tommy Cook. A lap 44 altercation between Kazmar and Kortz put both drivers to the rear. Michael Tutino brought out the caution on lap 51 when he blew a tire and hit the frontstretch wall, with Tutino escaping injury. Ignition problems slowed fourth place runner Bubba Whitney on lap 66. At the checkers, it was Buckley by 2.5 seconds over Cook. Everidge's third place finish was his best SUPERPRO effort to date followed by Kortz, Mike Kugler, Kazmar, Jim Davis, John Lynch, Whitney, and Greg Nienhouse.
Buckley made it a clean sweep of the evening by winning the "Five Star Racing Bodies" fast qualifer award with a time of 13.45 seconds around the quarter mile oval.
