“Lightening” Leroy Ellis struck again at the Spartan Speedway, tallying the MOD
50 win on Shaheen Automotive Group trophy night, July 29th. Dan Loughan was shown
as the early leader, with John Mamula, on his last night at the speedway, a close second.
With Mamula fading to third, after being passed by Ellis, caution came out on lap17.
Ellis restarted on the outside of Loughan and took the lead on lap 18. larry Wallace got
into the mix and took second from Loughan but couldn’t reel in Ellis for the win. At the
checker, it was Ellis, Wallace, Loughan, Mamula, and Bill Heeney. As a side note,
Heeney raced alongside daughter, Tracey Hernly and son-in-law, Tom Hernly Jr.,
making this a racing family affair. Steve Bates Jr. and Loughan took heat wins for the
division.

The Lipari Spartan Stock “A” feature saw Ron Heeney take the win over Damon
Place, Misty Allen and Steve Prucnell, as well as scoring the heat win.

The Spartan
Stock “B” heat race saw sparks fly as Matt Childers, running four wide on the back
stretch, climbed the wall, almost winding up on his lid. Scott Rodgers was also caught
up in the fracas and both Rodgers and Childers were able to return to competition for
the ‘B” feature. Tim VanTrease tallied the heat win, while Marc Childers scored his
4th “B” feature win of the season.
|
The Boss Snow Equipment Pony Stock division saw Wayne Beckner Jr. take a
trip to the Winner’s Circle, after a hard fought battle with Todd Metz Sr., for the “A”
feature win. Metz Sr. took the lead on lap two and he and Beckner broke away from the
pack to duke it out for first. Behind them, Darren Wright and Kyle Crump had their own
duel going on, with Crump besting Wright for third. At the line, it was Beckner Jr., Metz
Sr., Crump, Wright and Tyler Heeney. Beckner took the heat win as well for the
evening.

Brandon Moody came out on top for the “B” feature, with his win over Patrick
Denison, Rich Roberts, RJ Miller and Scott Sparagowski. “B” heat winners were
Denison and Mike Westphal.

Wingless Sprint division. Taylor Ferns worked her way up from mid-pack to finish
second, followed by Gary Sherman, Kyle Feeney, and Curt Shumaker. Fedewa and
