The Spartan Speedway "Race Recap" for Sept. 2, 2005

Spartan Speedway Season Championships

As the 2005 racing season is winding down, season championships were run at Spartan Speedway, on September 2nd, with all the point leaders starting up front in their features.

First up, were the Andrews Chevrolet Super Late Models, with Dave Stehouwer on the pole, followed by John Ledwidge, Bob Bauer, Chris Place, and Stan Perry starting as the top five. At the drop of the green, it was all Stehouwer, who sailed to the easy victory. Bauer ran second for 38 laps until Jeff Finley snuck around him on lap 39, with Jimmy Gallagher working his way up into the top five on the restart on lap 38. At the line, it was Stehouwer, Finley, Bauer, Place, and Gallagher. Stehouwer, of Muskegon, MI, was named the 2005 Andrews Chevrolet Super Late Model Track Champion. Garry Duram and Doc Dutton won heat races.

The MI Army National Guard MI Modifieds lined up for their championship feature with Bud Perry, Jason Parish, Chris Ozanich, Brian Heeney, and Justin Kazmar making up the top five in points. Perry showed the way for the entire 35-laps, with Parish and Kazmar duking it out over third place by lap 11. With Kazmar and Parish side by side at the line on lap 11, Kazmar gained the advantage on lap 12 to take the spot away. Perry, of Edgerton, OH came home with his third straight Track Championship for the MI Modifieds, followed by Ozanich, Kazmar, Parish, and Heeney. Rick Gokee Sr. and Tim Easey scored heat wins.

The Performance Automotive Northwest Street Stocks saw quite a point battle raging between third through fifth, with less than 50 points separating them. Dane Long started on the pole, followed by Bubber Patrick, Dave Thorburn, Damon Place, and Rob Patrick rounding out the top five in points. Long, of Charlotte, MI, earned his first Street Stock Track Championship by simply starting the feature. B. Patrick drove to a second place finish, followed by R. Patrick, Ed Newman Jr., and Mike Ammerman. Rob Marten, Ron Heeney, and Ammerman tallied heat wins.

Trei Deubel, of Holt, MI, cruised to a 2005 Q106 Pony Stock Track Championship, starting inside of Jimmy Scavarda, followed by Julie Dailey, George Wyers, and Jason Brunn. Deubel took off like a shot on the start, with Dailey having a stellar run in second ahead of Scavarda. Wyers and John Ward rounded out the top five at the stripe. John Conroy and Scavarda won their heats.

Don’t forget Fun Night this Friday night, Sept. 9th, featuring Powderpuff racing, with School Bus and Pony Stock Figure 8’s.
