Let's get a quick discussion going here over the next couple of days...

On Sunday, August 6th, we've got a 4-Cylinder OPEN scheduled. We have only had one outside car show up at one Springport OPEN event and three outside cars show up at one Spartan OPEN event. No outside cars showed up at the OPEN on July 23rd.

In my opinion, the August 6th show should be for our own Pony Stocks only with normal Pony Stock rules.

How do the rest of the Pony teams feel about this? If enough of you respond and the majority wins, I'll change it for you. But we need to decide quickly.

I like the idea of using the normal pony rules.

Either way is fine with me. But sticking to the regular rules will make it more competitive.

I will not be able to make the August 6th race, but there have been alot of interest from the Owosso gang, but unfortunetly a few of our regulars have been suffering engine problems.

I loved racing at Spartan, and I wish there were more chances this year to run there except on the Sunday shows. As most know, I attended the first Spartan show, The last Sunday show I was unable to make it due to breaking on Saturday night at Owosso..

I hope you will continue to leave them on the schedule, I'm sorry if you feel like there's not a interest in coming, making it through Saturday night alone can be tough -- it's hard to race two days in a row when you have problems, however, I'm going to check on a few things, perhaps if you dont see me in attendance --- maybe you will see my car though.

As you know there's not too many places for the non PRO-4 type RWD car's to race anymore beside Owosso, Whittemore for the pavement.....I hope that we don't lose Spartan too...

Galesburg is another pavement track you can run with RWD.
They draw enough mini stocks that they run A and B features.

We made the decision tonight to run normal Pony Stock rules and front-wheel drive only on August 6th at Spartan.

Maurice,

What is the format of this race? I am planning to come over from Owosso to run this Sunday.

Hi Darren,

The format of the race is the same as any night when the normal FWD Pony Stocks are running. Because we took away the "OPEN" aspect of it, the cars must fit our Pony Stock rules and the driver must be registered at the track. For a one-timer, there is a one-time registration fee. I think it's $25. If you plan on running more than once, then you should do a full registration.

Anyway, you can find the Pony Stock rules by going to the main website at spartanspeedway.com. Click on "Info". There you'll find a link to the complete rulebook.

You must have a legal engine, exhaust, and tires. You also must meet the weight rule. It must weigh 2350 lbs at any time, including after the feature, with the driver in the car. Your engine must be stock with stock compression ratio, no aftermarket cams, stock intake and fuel injection system, stock exhaust manifold, etc.

The last 6 inches of your exhaust pipe must be no larger than 2 inches outside diameter. Your tires must be DOT legal street radial tires. They must be 70 or 75 series and no larger than a 195. All four must be the same size. I've been allowing the left rear to be different, however. But there is no advantage to it. The only reason I've allowed it is so that the teams can throw any old tire on that corner.

The car must be safe and meet all of our safety requirements. These are outlined in the rulebook.

If you fit the above, we hope to see you there.

So will Sunday now be a points race if there is a registration fee for one timers or for the season? Sundays were free registration to encourage outsiders to come and run and those who were registered received 50 points. If it is a points race, those who are registered should be notified.

Since it's not a regular Friday night race, it will still be a 50 pointer. As for any outsiders bringing their FWD car and having to register, not sure about that one. That will be up to Paul and Gary.
