Redemption For Chad Finley As A Fourth Place Showing At Illiana Puts The Team Back On Track
DeWitt, Michigan (Thursday, May 24th, 2012): Chad Finley responded in a big way to a rough start to the 2012 racing season with a solid fourth place finish on Saturday, May 19th at Illiana Motor Speedway in Schererville, Indiana.
The DeWitt, Michigan driver quickly worked his way up into the top 10 and by the 1/2 way mark of the race, was in the top five. The 20-year-old methodically worked his way up to as high as second place with 20 laps to go and would stay with the leaders through the rest of the thrilling race and bring home the first top five finish of the season for CFR as he would come home in fourth.
“It was awesome to finally get us a good run in. We had a real good race car right off the truck.” Stated Finley. “I am very happy for all of my guys and most importantly our marketing partners here at CFR. We ran up front all day and that’s what it’s all about.” He added.
With the fourth place showing, Finley rocketed up the points chase in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by GM Performance Parts as he climbed all the way up to sixth in the points standings after starting the weekend in 12th. CFR hopes to continue the positive momentum THIS Saturday, May 26th down at Columbus Motor Speedway in Columbus, Ohio in the running of the CoughlinCars.com 100 Presented by JEGS.com.
Last season, Finley finished third at the uniquely shaped 1/3 (0.333) mile semi-banked circular paved oval after a daring three-wide pass for the lead on the white flag lap. He made the move stick despite very little grip up where there is no third groove going into turns one and two before losing traction. He recovered to stand on the podium in third.
“We’re looking forward to Columbus. Hopefully we can keep our momentum up from Illiana and improve on our third place finish from there from last year.” Remarked Finley. “We had a good car there and (Crew Chief) Jimmy D. (Smith) and the guys are learning a few things as of late that should be of big help to us when we get there. We need a win here real bad and our hard work has got to pay off soon. You just never know when it will come so we will just have to keep digging. We’re on it, so will see.” He ended.
