Oh it explains it all very nicely indeed, so why not do a trial run with some manuals? Let some of them race. If it's truly a advantage then do something about it then, add weight what have you. I just don't see that with these ponies at spartan that cars with manuals are gonna run all over them. spartan ponies are the fastest around. So lets see if they really are that fast???? unless they're SCARED!!! lol

This is already possible. Just tell all these multitudes of FWD 4-cylinder cars out there with manual transaxles to show up for the Sunday open events.

I can't think of any one of them ever showing up in the past.

thats beekuzz they've been told that they can't run at spartan so they don't come. i bet if the track actually advertised to this crowd that they are welcome that they would show. All comes down to politics! lol

The word is already out... you've read the above message that the FWD's with manuals can show up at the Sunday open shows. I don't know who these people are, but since you do, go tell them about it. See if you can get a whole bunch of them to show up. Like you said, it would be a good way to test them. How many are there?

I suppose the schedule would have to come out first before people could confirm a date.

So Owosso, Galesburg, Crystal, M-40, Mount Pleasant, Whittemore all run manuals OOORRRR automatics...Thats alot of tracks in the general area for a sunday race. Its up to the Track officials if they want to attract drivers in from other tracks. Not my job.

Sortabigg: Just tell the ones you personally know, such as the family member you mentioned. For those at the tracks you listed, word will spread pretty fast. Some of the drivers from those tracks read this message board regularly.

Patrick: The schedule has been posted for about two weeks now. It's not finished as more data will be added such as race sponsors, travelling series, etc. But there are 4 Sunday shows listed and each one has a 4-cylinder OPEN listed.

4-cylinder OPEN rules can be found under "Info".

I looked up last years Sunday shows. Each show was listed on the schedule as 4cyl open. Standard shift and rear wheel drives were allowed This is how many standard shift cars showed up to race.

May 28th .........2 both were RWD and Standard Shift

June 25th.........0

July 23rd..........0

Aug. 6th...........0

Sept. 3rd..........0

These shows were on the schedule and even talked about by several people on Spartans message board and MSTRC forum. I don't know why more didnt show up. I enjoyed racing with them. In my opinion I dont think more than 2 or 3 standard shift cars would show up even if they were allowed to race. I would hope that the people that are complaining about the "no Standard Shift" rule would show up and race when and if they are givin the opportunity to do so.

I would hope that with Owosso's new rules this year... that there will be a lot more Pony cars in the area.

And since they allow RWD and Manuals, it would seem like its a safe bet that there will be a few more cars around to participate.

Hopefully they will make some of the Sunday shows... and it'd be nice to see how we run with them.

Who knows.. maybe we'll discover that they aren't that different and we can just drop the rule.

Steve... first open is really early in the season. Get 10 of those Owosso cars to show up and who knows...

Hi Kyle,
Yep, I remember you had a stick. You were one of two RWD, stick shifts that were there the first Sunday. I hope you will come to this years Sunday shows.
See ya,
John

Patrick, I'll definently get the ones that I know to come out. I know that Owosso had new rules this year and you are right, there will be more of those types of cars in the area to race, that was my point to maurice but he didn't want to hear it....

Steve, I don't believe its fair to say "he didn't want to hear it"; what he is saying is they have been invited in the past and very few came.

As witnessed at the rules meeting, if you have a strong vocal group of car owners who express a desire and a commitiment to that desire, track ownership will listen. Get 10 cars to show up for a Sunday, get them to commit to showing up every Friday Night, have them repeat the performance on a following Sunday.. next thing you know, you might see a rules change.

But they have to actually show up and prove it.. not just talk about it.

John,

We actually sold our Mustang and will be running in the Short Track Trucks in 2007. I still have very close ties with the car, I'm sure you'll see it out there this year on the Sunday shows atleast the new driver in the car, maybe I can squeeze my way back into it. I had a blast running with you guys at Spartan and Springport.

Take Care!

if i remember right there used to be a claim for $1200 bo smith claim a car they would not sell the car so they lost there point and money. (right)some how some one didn't think it was right and gave the points and money back. so as you can see that ones out. if you guy don't like all the rules i might have a real good mod for sale.hell that way you can spend more money and not worry about all the rules. just what kind of tires we got to run. lol
