I have been in touch with Marty Blume regarding a book about the history of Spartan Speedway. If you don't know Marty he shows up on Old Timers Night with a display of things that are but memories for many.
I am not sure if this project has any merit but I do know that in the future the people that can contribute information will not be around to do so, which leads me to think we should at least look at the possibilities now.
If you have some thoughts or ideas please share them. If you know someone that has a long history at Spartan Speedway please ask them if they have any.
Marty will head up the project if we go forward with it.
Thanks |

I am currently gathering information from my years of memeorabilia that I have at home. I am looking forward to this project. I have no idea how long it will take. The track in Jackson was my home track to speak, but I probably have been to Spartan more than anyother track. My first memory of going to Spartan was one night in1965 when Joy Fair came with his wild Falcon and blew everyone away (as he did at most tracks with that car). I will be posting more as I seek out more info. The first question I have is if R.G. Atwood, the man who built the track is still alive and if so, how would I cantact him?
Thanks Marty Blume

| My guess is that Mr. Atwood has passed but I could be wrong. He was in his late 50s when he was running Spartan and Jackson at the same time....Im guessing early 1960's. I don't have a lot of history with Spartan to offer but I am looking forward to your findings in the future. |

Thanks Bill...that's what I am thinking too, but I thought I would put out a feeler. I am trying to make this project as factual as posible. It's going to be a long road, but a fun road. Again, thanks for your input.
