Hi Patrick, First of all thanks for asking the question. I believe that being vigilant and doing the best we can to require every car in every division to comply with the same rules is one of the most important responsibilities we have as track operators. That one single issue can eat away at car counts slowly and then it might take years to get the issue under control. By not enforcing rules consistently it actually demonstrates a lack of respect for the drivers that are following the rules and eventually they will stop having fun and then of course they may find something else to do.
If someone asked me what my biggest failure was as a race track operator I would have to say teching the cars properly. It is not that I don't want to but Friday night tracks have a unique challenge, which is time. I still have not even found a Pony tech for the 2010 season.
To be a good Spartan tech there are three "must have" qualities.
1. Be able to get to the track early on Friday.
2. Be knowledgeable in that field of cars.
3. Have communication skills. That will earn respect from the drivers.
I read the link that you posted and agree. If we want the Pony or Pure stock divisions to flourish we must tech the cars to stock. The easy path is to not tech but it will get you in the end. If we tech each competitor the same, regardless of how much the driver may lobby for their own agenda we will be doing our job the way we should be and ultimately we will see car counts grow. If we don't we won't need the new bleachers. |
