You brought up a good point about the 30 day thing, Chuck. Scratch my previous idea....I like Chuck's better.

This morning, I made another little change to the registration process. This allowed me to switch back to not having to personally activate a new account.

On the registration page, I added a confirmation question that must be answered and it must be answered correctly. It's actually a multiple choice question that goes like this:

What is the configuration of Spartan Speedway?

Your 3 choices are: 2 mile superspeedway, 2.8 mile road course, 1/4 mile short track.

It's very easy to guess the correct answer. Why did I add this? There are many, many bad people on the internet with their computers programmed to go out hunting for messages boards. These are commonly referred to as "robots". When they find a message board, they are set up to perform the registration process and then they can advertise their phony scamming websites by posting numerous messages that none of us care to see.

Anyway, these robots aren't programmed to know about the simple question they must answer correctly. Therefore, their registration will never go through and we aren't bothered by their presence.

A real human who really wants to belong to this message board will guess the correct answer.

-Maurice

I'm kinda leaning towards requiring that everyone submit their real full name, but only for the purpose of having it recorded with their account and not be made public unless the user chooses to make it public.

This is how I would do it: You would have an option that you can set in your profile that would keep your real name private. This would be the default and it would only be public if you make it public. If your real name is kept private, everything will appear as it currently does.

If you make your name public, then it would appear below your nickname on the left of any message that you post. It would also appear in the "Memberlist".

For those users who are already using their real names for their nickname, such as "Jim Leasure", you would still be required to submit your real name, but you would most likely keep the setting as private since your nickname is already your real name and it shows anyway.

As of this date, the voting is leaning towards requiring real names on this board, but there is also enough people who do not want it. It's not a good idea to do things that people don't like which is why I think the above idea would work and nobody should argue against it.

I suppose for anyone who doesn't like the above idea, they probably don't belong here anyway.

Hi! I'm Christie racefanadam's girlfriend. I just signed Adam up because I think he'll like it. Of course he will he loves anything that has to do with racing. I don't mind whether or not you require a persons real name to be used on the message board. I do think it would be nice to talk to some of the drivers and know that's really who I'm talking to. I guess If I talk to you guys more I'll eventually figure it out though. Thanks for listening to me.
