The 6th annual Michigan Short Track Racing Club Bowling Tournament continues to grow and help the racing community.

By M.P.H. Promotions

Owosso, Michigan (Thursday, December 11, 2008): The Michigan Short Track Racing Club (MSTRC) is proud to present the 6th annual MSTRC Bowling Tournament. The annual fundraising tournament will once again be held at Capitol Bowl in downtown Owosso, Michigan on Valentine’s Day Saturday, February 14, 2008.

The annual bowling tournament and bench racing extravaganza for the short track racing community in the state of Michigan, started in 2004, is once again fast approaching and every year the tournament grows by leaps and bounds.

This year’s tournament will once again benefit two family members of the racing community in the Great Lakes State; Ed Newman Jr., of New Lothrop, Michigan and Daniel “Doc” Dutton of Lansing, Michigan.

Newman Jr., is the 2008 Factory Stock Track Champion at Dixie Motor Speedway in Birch Run, Michigan. In September of 2008, he was involved in a car accident and is still recovering from his injuries and still needs to use a wheelchair.

Dutton is a competitor in the Super Late Models division at Spartan Speedway in Mason, Michigan, where he won the Rookie of the Year title in the tracks’ premiere division in 2005. In addition, Dutton is also the Owner of Lost Tiger Tattoos in Lansing, Michigan. In October of 2008, Dutton suffered a heart attack and is currently recovering at home.

The 6th Annual MSTRC Bowling Tournament will begin with Sign in at AHigh Noon@ with an Optional AHot Laps@ / Practice session beginning at 1:00p.m. Practice will end at 1:45p.m. After the random drawing for partners, bowling will start at approximately 2:00p.m.

A $10.00 donation is all it costs to join in on the fun and all participants will bowl Two (2) Games. Participants don=t even have to bowl with their partner! Everyone can still bowl with the group you came with on one or more lanes.

In addition, you don=t even have to bowl to participate! Everyone is encouraged to come out and support this annual event. There will be numerous door prizes to be given away throughout the afternoon as well as 50/50 drawings and several special prizes to be distributed.

Also during bowling, the NASCAR Nationwide Series 2009 season opener, the Camping World 300 from Daytona International Speedway will be shown on the surrounding televisions throughout the massive bowling alley for the participants to keep up with while bowling.

Following the bowling tournament, the MSTRC Bowling Tournament Awards Ceremony will be held approximately 45 minutes after the completion of Bowling in the bowling alleys= adjacent lounge, AThe Capitol Bowl Hot Spot.”

Later on that night, continue to celebrate the Valentine’s Day Weekend with the classic rock band “Basement Dawgs.” Veteran Modified driver, Matt Schindewolf, from Onondaga, Michigan who was a benefactor during last years bowling tournament, will be bringing his band back to the Capitol Bowl Hot Spot for the second year in a row.

Capitol Bowl is located at 219 South Washington Street behind the J.C. Penny=s store in Downtown Owosso, Michigan. For more information about Capitol Bowl, log onto their website at: Capitol Bowl

As in years past, the benefactors were decided on by the membership of the Michigan Short Track Racing Club as Nominations were presented on the MSTRC message board and decided on by the senior members of the MSTRC Bowling Tournament Committee.

In addition, M.P.H. Promotions is once again donating the trophies to be presented after the tournament to the winners of; Team High Series, Men=s High Series, Men=s High Game, Women=s High Series, Women=s High Game, and the Chris Throgmartin Never Give Up Award.

During the Fifth edition of the bowling tournament back on February 8, 2008, 100 bowlers jammed the 24-lane bowling alley in downtown Owosso, Michigan and the total money raised for the two benefactors was tallied at $1825.00, a new Bowling Tournament Record!

As for the award winners of the 5th annual MSTRC Bowling Tournament, veteran Modified Driver, Dan Loughan and his partner, Mark Wilson were the winners of the Team High Series as they combined to bowl an 807.

George Lord was the winner of both the Men’s High Series and Men’s High Game as he bowled 471 series with a high game of a 268. Susan Kelley won the Women’s High Series and Women’s High Game for the fourth time in five tournaments as she bowled a 430 series with a high game of a 226.

Gerry Persails Sr., a benefactor at the 4th annual tournament, was the winner of the Chris Throgmartin Never Give Up Award after bowling a 56. The Chris Throgmartin Spirit Award went to George Keen for all his work with his Racing Show Website and Radio Work on the Westside of the state of Michigan.

Finally “Team Big Mouth” took the special Traveling Team Award. Team Big Mouth consisted of; Ted Carpenter, Ed Inloes, Dave Kennedy, Matt Prieur and Shaun Whitney! Team Big Mouth won the special Five-Man Team Award as they defeated Team Gone Fishin 1466-1348 to take home the Special Traveling “We Whipped Your A$$ Award.”

The MSTRC Bowling Tournament was started in 2004 as a way for the racing community in the great auto racing state of Michigan to get together over the winter and bowl for a great cause. The MSTRC Bowling Tournament is now one of the biggest fundraisers in the State of Michigan for racing families in need.

The first year of the bowling tournament, which was held at Tri-Ami Lanes in Ovid, Michigan on January 31, 2004 saw one of the top Modified drivers in the state, Millington, Michigan veteran, Buck Harsen and his family benefit from the generosity of the Michigan Short Track Racing community after he lost his home, garage, and race cars in a tragic fire earlier that month.

The 2nd annual event, held back on February 12, 2005 also at Tri-Ami as Michael Putnam, who lost his wife, Stacey in September 2004 as well as the owners of the Mt. Pleasant Speedway in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, Betty and Mario Crook, who lost the patriarch of the family, Dick Crook, also in the Fall of 2004.

During the 3rd edition of the Tournament, which was held on February 11, 2006 at Tri-Ami, the first benefactor was the family of the late Paul Bouwman, a former Michigan Modifieds Association State Dirt Champion. The second was former General Manager and P.A. Announcer at the Auto City (MI) Speedway, the late Greg Yost, who later passed away on August 9, 2006.

In the 4th annual event, the bowling tournament was moved to a bigger facility to accommodate the mass numbers of participants as the immaculate Capitol Bowl in Owosso, Michigan served as hosts.

The benefactors back on February 10, 2007 were RacesOnTheWeb.com guru, Verwayne Greenhoe of Sheridan, Michigan and the Persails Family of Flint, Michigan with Gerry Sr., and Gerry Jr., both were the second benefactors.

Last season during the 5th edition of the tournament on February 9, 2008 back at Capitol Bowl, the benefactors were the Faur Family of Mt. Morris, Michigan and veteran Modified driver, Matt Schindewolf of Onondaga, Michigan. Later that night, Schindewolf’s band, “Basement Dawgs” played well into the evening.

Our Reply:

We don't even know how to begin to Thank all of you. We'll start by saying "Thank you from the bottom of our hearts"! It simply doesn't seem like enough though.

Earlier this summer I was talking with one of my friends, Cindy Lee ( <3 u! ) she mentioned that Doc & I should go to it this year. She was showing me some pictures from the 5th Annual MSTRC Bowling Tournament, and I commented on how much fun it looked like. We were planning on going with her.

A couple months later my husband had his heart attack. Never in my wildest dreams did I think we'd be going with him as one of the benefactors!

We'd like to Thank everyone for thinking of us! I wish I could begin to explain the feeling we have, but I have to go beekuzz my eyes are filling up again! This time I'm at the tattoo shop and can't be looking like no sissy

I love you all!

My money is on the Beckners. Last year I lost a dollar betting one of them couldn't make a strike throwing the ball between their legs. I was going to go fifty because I couldn't imagine that someone could do that but they seemed pretty confident but I really didn't want to take their money so I went the dollar. I am glad they were easy on me, they could have hosed me.

The Beckner Family has supported our tournament every year, and we are very proud to have them helping us again this year.

With Doc being one of our benefactors, it looks like we will see some more new faces this year. Let me warn you though, once you've gone to one of our Charity Tournaments, you will not wanna ever miss another one!!!!

Can't wait to see all my Spartan Family there on Valentine's Day!!!

If anyone has any questions, or donations to the tourny, just post your thoughts here, and I'll be more than happy to try and answer them!!!

Big Ed
