#93 StreamNetRadio.com Dodge to debut at Kalamazoo

On May 10th, Maurice Randall will be making an appearance at Kalamazoo Speedway, racing in the Great Lakes Supercup Series. Sponsored by StreamNetRadio.com and Races On the Web, this will be the first of 15 appearances at various tracks in Michigan and Indiana during the 2008 season for Randall.

The series consists of 1/2 scale Mini Cup cars built to look like their full-size NASCAR Cup Series cousins. Many of the competitors paint their cars in a theme to represent an existing or past NASCAR team. So, it is only fitting that Maurice Randall's Dodge is painted up in the same bright red and green colors and the #93 to simulate the NASCAR and ARCA cars he himself drove in the late 80's and early 90's.

Maurice had this to say following a recent test session, "I was real pleased with the test we just did at Springport. Even though we had the wrong gear in the car and a slight push in the corners on our final run, the car was very consistent and varied by only a tenth in 8 laps. Our lap times would have put us in the top 3 in qualifying according to times recorded by the teams during the 2007 season."

"I'm also looking forward to racing at Springport on May 17th and seeing all my friends from the 2007 season, including all the fans who helped support me and all the drivers from last year." Maurice Randall was the promoter at Springport in 2007.

The car Maurice Randall will be driving is owned by Tim Phillips and TNT Motorsports out of Otsego, Michigan. Tim won the Great Lakes Supercup Championship in 2007, driving the #8 Budweiser Chevy. Tim knows how loyal Maurice is to the Mopar brand, so he bought a Dodge body and fitted it to one of his chassis' and asked Maurice if he would drive it this year. It wasn't hard to talk him into the new ride. Maurice added, "These Mini Cup drivers take their racing seriously and put on a great show for the fans. Watching these cars race on a 3/8ths mile track is like watching the big cars race on a superspeedway."

In 2008, the Great Lakes Supercup Series will be competiting at Kalamazoo Speedway, Springport Motor Speedway, Spartan Speedway, Galesburg Speedway, Anderson Speedway, and Mt. Lawn Speedway.

Tim has a brand new car this year. It's still the #8 Dale Jr Budweiser car, but it has the "True Music" theme that Dale used I believe in 2003. It's mostly black with a dark red all around the bottom with Budweiser on the quarters and True Music graphics on the hood and decklid.

Here's some photos from our practice session at Kalamazoo last night (05/08/2008).

As you can see in this first photo, the sponsor, Races On The Web, for the decklid is now applied. There are still a couple of checkered flags to add to this logo which are not yet ready.

Here's a new view of the sponsor's name, StreamNetRadio.com, on the hood. Notice how well the contrast and visibility is for the sponsor. This is very easy for the spectators to read when the car is coming down the front straightway at speed. Too many teams nowadays get way too fancy and flashy with their lettering which might look great up close, but not too good for your sponsor on the race track. Keep it simple, bold, and bright so your sponsors can get their money's worth.

All the numbers and lettering on this car were done very nicely and were very reasonably priced. For your own car, be sure to contact Brian Barden at Island City Graphics in Eaton Rapids at 517-652-3014. (You'll love his prices)

Here's a shot of Tim's new Budweiser Chevrolet Monte Carlo, taken at Kalamazoo this past Saturday (sorry about the spots in the photo. I need to pull the lens and clean it):

Here's a shot of the pit area for the Mini Cups last Saturday:

Here's another shot of the pit area. That's Trent Jensen's bright green Davis Bros sponsored Monte Carlo:

A brief recap of my own performance this past Saturday at Kalamazoo... During practice, it looked like my car was the one to beat as I was turning the fastest laps. I felt very comfortable with the car's setup, so I didn't run it in the second round of practice. There were 16 cars to qualify and I was the last one to go out. Scott Phillips in the Hooters car had fast time with a 16.4, but not for long. My first lap was a 16.1 and then I somehow cranked out a 15.8. Nobody, including myself, could believe that run. I thought I messed up both laps since the car got loose off of 2 and loose off of 4 on both laps. I just hung on and drove it. That establishes a new track record at Kalamazoo. I think that record will stand for awhile. I must have had the car just right for that run.

In my heat, I broke a drive chain, so I was unable to finish. I would end up 3rd in the feature, but most likely could have won it had I known we were only going to run 15 laps. We all thought they were going to give us 20 laps. So, I played it cool early on and started to turn things up around lap 12. I moved into 3rd on lap 14 and figured I could take the lead in the next 2-3 laps and make a good race out of it. Supposedly, the officials thought bad weather was coming in, so they shortened us up to 15 laps. Had I known that, I would have gotten things going much sooner than I did. Being a promoter last year, I know the fans like to see a good race, so I wanted to wait until late in the race to take the lead. I won't make that mistake again.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing everyone this coming Saturday at Springport. I'm gunning for a new track record there in the Mini Cups. And hopefully a good run in the feature. See you there...
