10th Annual MSTRC Bowling Tournament Set to Roll Feb. 9th
In what has become a well established tradition for local racing, the MSTRC bowling is set to celebrate its 10th anniversary on February 9th! The annual event that benefits two individuals or families in the local racing community will once again take place at the very popular Capitol Bowl in Owosso,MI. To date, this event has raised nearly $15,000 in its 10 year history!
After accepting nominations for the last month, the tournament committee has decided on the recipients and are proud to announce Jeff Bloom and Terry Fitzwater as those selected!
Bloom, the veteran sprint car driver and Michigan Motor Sports Hall of Fame member from Bangor, was injured in a fiery crash at Berlin Raceway on August 25th. The sprint car Jeff was driving slid backward into the concrete wall and split the fuel cell resulting in third degree burns on his right arm and hands,as well as second degree burns on the right side of his body.
Terry Fitzwater is best known as the publisher of the Midwest Racing Scene as well as the creator and presenter of the Tom Carnegie Announcer of the Year and Henry J Fitzwater Driver of the Year Awards. Fitzwater was hospitalized recently for 11 days with no insurance with blood clots on the leg and artery and was diagnosed with diabetes.
Along with the benefactors,we have also chosen Jason Seltzer from the Kalamazoo Speedway to be the recipient of this years Chris Throgmartin Spirit Award. "The Mouth" of Kalamazoo not only is one of the driving forces behind the entertainment at the speedway as well as helping out with Little Kalamazoo and the kids there, but Jason was one of the first to step up and organize helping out Troy Dillon when the apartment complex he stayed at caught fire.
The action in the lanes will begin with optional early practice at $3.25 a game starting at 3:15. Bowlers will start signing up at 4 with practice at 4:30 and lasting until 5:30. Sign in will end at 5:15 followed by the drawing of teams and then the Invocation and National Anthem set for 5:55 with the bowling set to start at 6. Please note: bowlers are charged $10 for two games which does not include shoe rental.
After the bowling concludes at approximately 8,the awards ceremony will take place in the Capitol Bowl's Hot Spot Lounge. Certificates will be awarded for mens, womens and team high games as well as the presentation of the Greg Yost never Give Up Award. The Chris Throgmartin Spirit Award will be handed out as well as the benefactors being presented with the money raised. This will all be capped off by The Basement Dawgs classic rock band performing the rest of the night!
Anyone not wanting to bowl is encouraged to just come out and enjoy the festivities! 50/50 raffles and door prize raffles will be held throughout the day and will feature a Miller Welder and a Captain America/7UP electric chopper that have been donated by MCR President Mr. Steve Martin and his wife Sharon. Both items are valued at over $1,000 with tickets for said items going for five dollars a piece! There will also be donations from local race fans, tracks and businesses set up and the goal is to make sure everyone walks out of the alley with something.
A Paypal account has been set up for accepting donations as well as purchasing tickets for the welder or electric chopper. That link is available in the main page header at www.mstrc.com as well as on Facebook.
