TRACK RULES & PROCEDURES (All Divisions)
SLAB REQUIREMENTS:
All race cars must be parked on a slab. In order to reserve the same slab season to season you must do so by April 1. You may not loan, rent, or otherwise reassign your slab. a) Hood and rear deck must be securely fastened down in four corners by hood pins or hinges at all times the car is on the track. Hood air scoops, a maximum height of 4", are allowed. Fender openings may be radiused and flared and 2" of the treaded portion of the tire may remain outside the body lines. Wrecker quick hook ups are mandatory at both ends. Jacking posts are allowed but must not extend beyond the body. Overall construction, workmanship and appearance subject to approval of Spartan officials.B. ENGINES: a) U. S. manufacture, cast iron block only. No aluminum blocks. Engines limited to one stock type carburetor. Two carburetor return springs in good working order must be used. Choke housing and mechanism may be removed.C. WEIGHT: Minimum 2700 lbs. pre-race with driver strapped in seat, in an upright position, as if race ready:D. REAR AXLE AND DRIVE SHAFT: Rear axle assemblies, quick change, full floaters or truck rear ends are mandatory. One oval (360 degrees) shaped brackets, no less than 2" wide and 1/4" thick are to be placed around the drive shaft and fastened to the cross member. Drive shaft must be painted white.E. BRAKES: All cars must have four wheel, hydraulically-actuated brakes in working order.F. EXHAUST: All cars must have working mufflers passing 100 decibel noise test. Exhaust must exit behind the driver and exit in the lower 1/3 of car.G. FUEL AND FUEL CELL: Approved type fuel cells are mandatory complete with metal enclosing container and internal bladder (foam filled). "Drybreak" system and check ball vents lines are mandatory if car can be fueled from outside body filler openings. Otherwise, fuel cell must have secure screw type cap with safety chain and fuel may be added only by opening trunk lid. 22 Gallon maximum capacity. Fuel cell must be protected by welded bars with 1" square tube supports under the fuel cell. A rear fuel guard is also required. Fuel cell should be located as close to the rear axle as possible and in back of the rear axle, must also remain between inside tread width. Fuel cell container must have a minimum of 8" ground clearance. A solid metal firewall must be in place to separate the driver from the fuel cell. No fuel line inside the driver's compartment allowed. No part of the fuel lines shall be located below the bottom of the frame or along the outside of the frame. Only racing or straight pump gasoline or alcohol allowed. If alcohol is used, a 6" letter "A" must be displayed in a contrasting color on rear panel and lower right hand corner of windshield. No provisions or concessions will be made for alcohol cars on long races. You may not use larger fuel cells.H. STARTER: Must be in working order. Motor should be able to start with own battery. Battery must be securely fastened in engine compartment or behind rear firewall. It must be covered and not in the same compartment with the driver. Battery must be kept charged, master switch must be mounted within easy reach of driver strapped in seat and must be easily accessible from outside the car.I. ROLL CAGE AND CHASSIS: Chassis may not be adjustable from driver's compartment. No electric, hydraulic or pneumatic jacking devices allowed. No holes may be drilled in the chassis for lightening purposes. Roll cage padding is mandatory on four post design with front roll bar following windshield contour and rear roll bar in back of driver's seat. Top of roll bars must be connected to form a box section and be at least 2" above the driver's head. Distance from frame rail to bottom of roll cage must be a minimum of 34" or 2" above the driver's head as seated in the car, whichever is greater. Bars must be securely welded to the frame. Four bars at driver's hip height shall be installed on the driver's side, between front and rear roll bars. A 1/8" steel plate is mandatory on driver's side door bars from front upright to rear upright and from top door bar to frame rail. Three bars are to be installed on the right side with the same stipulations as above. Roll cage structure shall be braced to front frame sub with a hoop section surrounding the engine compartment and rearward with diagonal members connecting to rear frame section. Bottom bay of car in cockpit section, must have an X member spanning laterally between main frame members. All roll bars must be a minimum of .090 wall thickness. Seamless tubing of 1.5" or seamed tubing of 1.75" outside diameter must be used. The driver's seat shall be attached via aircraft type hardware to a substructure connecting to the roll cage and/or primary frame members. A racing quality aluminum bucket type seat is required with headrest securely mounted to frame and roll cage. Back of seat must be secured to roll bar behind driver. Shoulder harness must run through hoops. Two foot bars mandatory. No box type decking in driver's compartment. Decking must angle from right side door to base of driver's seat.J. WHEELS AND TIRES: All wheels must be steel or aluminum racing wheels, 15" diameter only and a maximum of 10" wide. Wheels may be chromed plated.K. SUSPENSION: Fully independent front end suspension, A arm type, no aluminum spindles allowed. Front suspension may be treated (heat shot peening, etc.) and reinforced to increase strength. Steering must be reinforced for safety. Steering arms may be modified. Larger size shafts will be permitted. No independent rear suspension permitted. Rear suspension may be suspended by leaf, coil spring or coil over shock units. Coil over shocks may be used on front suspension. Weight transfer devices may not be automatically actuated by the driver. No type of traction control will be allowed, electronic or otherwise.L. SAFETY EQUIPMENT: Approved driver's side window net with quick release mechanism attached to top of roll cage is mandatory. Driver must be able to enter or exit out both doors through window openings. All cars will be equipped with MINIMUM 3" wide belt, 2 piece shoulder harness, and crotch strap with metal to metal central release. It is mandatory that all drivers use an unaltered safety neck brace (horse collar); a head/neck restraint system is highly recommended. This system must be in good condition with a 3 year maximum dating. Safety inspector has final say. Restraint system must be securely attached to roll cage structure. Safety glasses, goggles or face shield is mandatory. An approved head restraint will be located directly behind driver's head with driver seated normally. Fire extinguisher, currently dated, B or C type dry chemical is required within reach of driver. Automatic on board fire extinguisher systems are highly recommended. All other required safety equipment and specifications are addressed in Section 3 of Track Rules & Procedures.M. RADIATORS: Any type may be used providing it does not alter the hood or body sheet metal. All radiators must be mounted in front of engine and must not protrude through the hood. Water is the only acceptable coolant, no ethylene glycol content (anti freeze). There will be a $50.00 fine imposed for use of anti freeze and deducted from purse.N. TRACTION CONTROL: Is not permitted. No adjusters of any type in cockpit with the exception of brake bias. **MSD box must be mounted out of reach of driver sitting in car. |
